A GoPro camera mount is described to mount it outside the protective case for effective sound recording in a static dry environment.

Introduction

In my first attempts to make videos of my tinkering with my GoPro Hero 4 camera, I made a mount for the camera. It connected to those nifty clevis joint fittings that are molded into the waterproof GoPro housings. I was disappointed to find that the audio track of the recording was almost useless (Not a surprise when it is in a sealed box. You can hear some examples on my Youtube channel).

I set about to make a simple and convenient mount that could be connected to the bare camera to allow it to record video with clear audio included. This was primarily for static situations where the box protection was not required for mechanical or weather protection.

The stainless steel mount has a 1/4 inch BSW female thread and a matching stud. It weighs only 6g and is designed to be sent in ordinary letter post.

The stainless steel band clears the function buttons and the rubber band only slightly obscures the viewing screen. It can also be mounted on a 1/4″ bolt or ‘all thread’ for use with custom mounting devices.

I spot welded the stainless steel nut to the stainless steel band using custom made welder tip.
